That's fine if you don't want to restructure. I don't see it as
"complex", just tedious.

Regarding optional dependencies, isn't this feature supported by maven?

I'm really not familiar with this feature.

Of course, setting these packages to optional will break people's code existing, but
MC is pre-2.0.
