Janice: You can use the starter kit to deploy your processes; however, you could also rebuild the jbpm.sar to deploy jbpm in whatever app server you want, with whatever RDBMS you are already using; you can find instructions to modify database and jBPM in chapter 8, and also in this post: http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=74781.
