Yeah I couldn't get it to work either, allbeit I didn't try for very long. It seems to be a poor feature of Log4J that you can only have one config per JVM. In the end we have to have 1 log4j config in our EAR file which has knowledge of every application deployed and the JBoss log4j config too, as you can understand this is not ideal.
