Actually I tried it both ways. I started with the ear file in the deploy directory and got the deploy error. Then I removed all my apps from the deploy directory and made sure JBoss came up without error. Then I copied the ear file into the deploy directory and witnessed the same deploy error. Oh well. Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately now we are going to have to fall back to JBoss 4.0.4GA for our app because of an issue we are having with 4.2.2GA (which I don't understand and no one has been able to shed light on).
