Thanks, that worked. As it turns out, there is no need to call entityManager.merge() at
all. As the Exam entity is always in the entityManager, any call to entityManager.flush()
will do the job of updating the database. I guess no one has got my problem because I
shouldn't have called merge() in the first place.
