I found out that when my action is getting called, the DataModel is null, which would explain why the selection is also null. Now I need to figure out what is setting this DataModel to null. It makes no sense. Doing even the simple things in Seam can be quite challenging sometimes because it can be so hard to figure out where and why something is being set.
