I guess the quick start guide suits better for JBoss Portal + JBoss AS (non-clustered) distro. For clustered distro, a database needs to be configured. JBossw AS + JBoss Portal by default comes with hypersonic database which for obvious reason is not suited for clustered configuration hence we have excluded that for deployment. But as you said, this needs to be mentioned in quick start guide and we will try to fix that in next release.
