I will have to upgrade the entire testsuite to Arquillian 1.0.0.Alpha5 to resolve this
issue.

appears to be introduced by arquillian version change to 1.0.0.Alpha5;
Using latest arquillian 1.0.0-SNAPSHOT also leads to this issue.
