Why not let people edit posts, but strikeout the changed text (text-decoration:
line-through;). That way the history would be visually available. The diff might be a bit
tricky though.....

Users should be able to edit their own comments and forum posts if that is enabled in the
system preferences. There is basically only the UI missing for that.
