The patch isn't backward compatible with wicket 1.3, but the wicket world is
definitely fully into 1.4, and it's a good idea to support this for 2.2.1.CR2.

The proposed fix for adding wicket 1.4 support to SEAM mentioned in
https://jira.jboss.org/browse/JBSEAM-3421 seems modest.
Wicket 1.4 has many bug-fixes and enhanced functionality that would make this change
worthwhile.
Could this fix be included in the SEAM 2.2.1 version?
