I was hoping to be able to change the spring example so it could be deployable anywhere and not dependent upon microcontainer or jboss but that would require changing the example to use only Spring managed transactions. Using only Spring managed transactions is possible now with JBSEAM-1144 fixed but it would require creating a new Transactions component that would always return "NoTransaction" and after talking with Gavin that is not a component they want added to the Seam code base right now. So I'm going to go ahead and close this issue for now.
