I created a project on github.com to reproduce this issue.

Deploy to jboss 7 and open http://localhost:8080/seam3-sandbox-1.0.0-SNAPSHOT/posts.xhtml
in ur browser.
There are four buttons to save post.
create --> no @Transactional, no "em.flush" in method.
create 2--> has @Transactional, no "em.flush" in method.
create 3--> no @Transactional, has "em.flush" in method.
create 4--> has @Transactional, has "em.flush" in method.
When new a post, the first two can not save post, and I can not save the manytomany
relations(Post and Tag).
When edit the post...the exception will be thrown.

Thanks Hantsy, I'll take a look. A couple of off the bat observations:
* The @Transactional, as you have demonstrated, is completely redundant in this case. That
would actually check for a transaction three times. You're in an EJB so there's
already a transaction provided by the container. If that doesn't work, Seam Faces with
Seam Transaction will create a transaction at the start of the request. Then of course the
@Transactional interceptor would create a transaction if that didn't work. So this is
very redundant as you can see.
* My initial thought because the transaction has nothing to do with the saving as you are
certainly within a transaction is your EntityManager for some reason is in the manual
flush mode from Hibernate. I'll have to look and see if that's actually the case.
As in the first two methods there's no flush and it doesn't appear the
EntityManager is being flushed at the end of the transaction or at the end of the method
as one would think.

I have said when edit the saved post...created a new one firstly, then edit it...and press
the "Create"(maybe a "Save" button is more clear), I will get the

session.
There is nowhere to set if I can use a Maunal flushmode or AUTO flushmode. if it used the

Right, they should have been initialized, but somewhere it seems they were not. I thought
maybe it was because of a new entity manager, but that doesn't appear to be the case
either as any time there is a currentPost, it belongs to the correct entity manager.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what needs fixing here. When I debugged your example
app, the EntityManager was the same and so were the entities. Those are both things that I
would think are incorrect.
Others have had successful production deployments with Seam 3 and have not reported this
issue. I am at a lost for this one.

There is another problem you must know...in the four cases, I used @Transacational or
em.flush...
I have removed the following in the persistence.xml.
<property name="hibernate.transaction.flush_before_completion"
value="true" />
With em.flush, even there is a @Transacational on method, the data will not be saved.

The problem is a JSF problem. In your selectManyCheckBox you need to set the
collectionType attribute to the java.util collection type. Mojarra creates a new instance
of type to set the new values to. Either this is a new instance of the type given in
collectionType or the *concrete type* of the actual collection. In this case it was the
Hibernate PersistentBag. So Mojarra creates a new instance of the class and sets the
objects on that. Of course Hibernate can't use that instance to persist with because
it doesn't know anything about it, it was created outside of Hibernate.
That's the core of the issue. When you fix that you also have to set the objects on
both sides of the many to many collection. In the github app you posted you have to set
the post on the tag(s) as well as the tag(s) on the post. Then see things persisting
correctly.

I have browsed the codes...you are still using the manual way to update the manytomany
relation, and you do not process the "Remove" action in the multicheckboxs which
is available at the edit time. Using the manual way is easy to overcome this barrier, but
it is very stupid, I also used the similar solution in my project temporarily.
If you consider this is equivalent to the Seam 2 way, you can close this issue. Of course,
I do not think so.
If you think this can be improved, and Seam Team can improve it, and make it available
like the Seam 2, keep this issued opened till the solution is available.
I only hope I can process the manytomany relation as Seam 2 way, no extra codes for it
like the approach in my codes.

Hantsy, what you have in the example is a bi-directional Many to Many. The only way to
correctly save a bi-directional Many to Many. In that case you *must* set both sides of
the relationship to maintain consistency and avoid corruption. If this were changed to a
unidirectional Many to Many it would work the way you are expecting. This is all plain
JPA, Seam isn't changing any of these

In my project, I only copied the codes from Seam 2 in the current application. In the
seam2 version, it worked well.
