This is crucial information, it should be documented. I just checked the docs and I can't find such information neither in Infinispan translators nor Infinispan data sources section

I didn't report that my data is gone from the cache, I expect that.
Though here we are talking about JDG's internal '___protobuf_metadata' cache, where the Message descriptors are being stored. The cache is shared across the cluster, but I don't think it is persistent, or is it? If not, we can again reach the state, where Teiid assumes, that the Message descriptors are registered on JDG's side, but meanwhile, whole JDG cluster went down and up again and the internal caches are empty. And then the error I originally put into this issue's description appears.

Yes. We do this because otherwise the latency introduced by Teiid would be quite significant for large results.

If the client has explicitly started a transaction (XA or local) then the statement is considered transactional. If the client has not started a transaction (autoCommit=true), the we consult the autoCommitTxn setting, which defaults to DETECT. In DETECT mode we analyze the query plan with the given transaction isolation level to determine if the engine should start a transaction at the statement level. For just selects and default isolation level of READ_COMMITTED, then we won't consider a statement level transaction as necessary. Typically this only affects plans with procedures or updates that span multiple sources.

So the main problem here is how a client handles non-transational statements because teiid returns results as quickly as possible.

[~shawkins] thx a lot for your explanation. Can I ask you, how do you determine what is transactional statements and what is non-transactional ones? By begin-end block? That is a virtual procedure eventually is a transactional statement because of begin-end block but a usual statement like our example here above with unions is non-transactional because it doesn't have begin-end blocks, just usual select clauses, correct?
I've just re-checked and indeed making unions queries as transactional statements helped me to get correct error message:
