I am trying to programatically create a materialized view from the MetadataFactory object.
I have created a table object using addTable() and then I call setMaterialized(true). I
see there are a couple of other related method names in Table (setMaterializedStagedTable
and setMaterializedTable). I assume those are when materializing to an external database.
What I am doing is incorrect, however.

No. I didn't know it existed. I would prefer not to, though, since our view
definition is resolved at query time. I realize that's a little silly for
materialized views but we share this code with non-materialized views. Further, when the
view is refreshed, I'd like the definition to be refreshed as well.

A bit more info: Our "view" is a translator, extending from
TeiidExecutionFactory, which rewrites the query to mimic views. The rewriting process
executes an Apache Velocity template which can connect back into Teiid to resolve the
query definition.
It's not clear from a quick browse of the code how the select transformation is used.

The select transformation is the view definition. Transformation was the metamatrix term
for the SQL underlying any virtual object.
Without a view definition the table record is not a view and cannot be materialized. It
sounds like you may be wanting to use alter view or another metadata loading mechanism to
bring your definition into the runtime. From there materialization will work as
expected.

So, a couple of questions:
1) What are your thoughts on having a table, call it VELOCITY_VIEW, backed by our current
execution factory and a materialized view, MATVIEW whose select transformation is
"SELECT * FROM VELOCITY_VIEW" ?
2) Of course, I don't know how else the select transformation is used but it seems
that the materialized view would always be defined as "SELECT * FROM <underlying
table>" so it should be unnecessary to call setSelectTransformation. Would you
entertain a feature request along these lines?

1) Yes, if you want to leave the current view logic under your translator, then that view
would be fine.
2) What feature request are you referring to? A view of the form "SELECT * FROM
tbl" is a perfectly valid target for materialization.

setMaterializedView(true) and have Teiid treat A as a materialized view backed by a

Currently, I create a separate view called A_MAT_VIEW whose metadata is (1)

I am trying to programatically create a materialized view from the MetadataFactory
object. I have created a table object using addTable() and then I call
setMaterialized(true). I see there are a couple of other related method names in Table
(setMaterializedStagedTable and setMaterializedTable). I assume those are when
