Backport to metamodel branch?
by Gail Badner
Now that we have a git branch for 5.0 work (metamodel), I'm assuming we need to backport to the metamodel branch in addition to master (for 4.1).
Or will git auto-magically figure it all out when the metamodel branch is merged into master (whenever that is)?

Forum not functional
by Gunnar Morling
Hi,
it seems like something is wrong with the database of the Hibernate forum.
Accessing https://forum.hibernate.org/ gives me only a MySQL error:
General ErrorSQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) [2002]
I don't know who's in charge for the forum, but maybe you guys do?

Using Hibernate 3.6.x with Infinispan 5.1.1 as a second level cache and alternatives...
by Scott Marlow
Hi,
I have heard from some AS7 users over the past few months that are
interested in using Hibernate 3.6.x with Infinispan 5.1.x as the second
level cache. Galder already mentioned that Hibernate 3.6.x is targeted
at Infinispan 4.x, so I understand part.
My question and reason for this email, is to see if there is any
interest in working with others that are experimenting with using
Infinispan 5.1.x with Hibernate 3.6.x.
As an alternative, would these users experience less friction, if they
packaged Infinispan 4.x directly with their application (adding
configuration/initialization code as needed).

More Git fun
by Steve Ebersole
Another thing we don't want to see is merges of pull requests pushed to
the upstream repo. Our process is to rebase those changes in to keep the
commit history linear. If you are not familiar with this process ask on
irc.
One place this comes up is using the "Merge Pull Request" button on the
pull requests in the GitHub UI. Please refrain from using this. Again,
ask on irc if you are not comfortable with that process.

deprecate positional parameters?
by Steve Ebersole
What do y'all think about deprecating positional parameters in HQL? I
am talking about the HQL-specific notion here, not the JPA notion of a
positional parameter which we obviously have to continue to support.
HQL positional params are in the form:
from Cat c where c.name = ?
w/ setParameter(1, "steve")

All the tests in hibernate-ogm pass with Voldemort but PerfTest didn't even run
by skawashima@uchicago.edu
Hi,
I'm not sure if there is already an implementation for Voldemort and also not sure if anyone even wants to use Voldemort with hibernate ogm but that's where I started experimenting hibernate ogm and now my implementation passes all the supplied test cases except one test class called PerfTest. It's located in the package named "org.hibernate.ogm.test.perf".
Every time I try to run it changing VM arguments, I get OutOfMemory exception and also an exception saying "ARJUNA: some error message". As the result, the commit fails. Has anyone succeeded to run the test cases in the class ? If so, what would you set the VM options ?
Thank you

case, coalesce, nullif; but no NVL/ISNULL
by Steve Ebersole
HQL and JPQL define support for case expressions (both simple and
searched), as well as the 2 "abbreviated" SQL CASE forms nullif and
coalesce.
However, we do not currently have a standard form for NVL/ISNULL. Part
of the problem is that SQL does not define such an abbreviated form
either. And while most vendors have such an abbreviated form, they are
all named something different, NVL and ISNULL being the 2 I am familiar
with.
But its such a generally useful construct, I wonder if we should define
support for it in the base Dialect as well. Not sure which name to use
tbh. NVL is a bit obtuse, ISNULL sounds more like a function returning
a boolean.
Thoughts?
