Hi,
it seems that if this user kills the cache everything is fine, but if
he stops it gracefully the stored state is somehow corrupted.
Does anyone have an idea of what could be happening?

Not at first glance, but if he can replicate it, he should submit a JIRA.
If he can attach a test case to replicate the issue even better :)
