why does values cannot be set on the portal objects rather ?
the current implementation use the default object name property to find the default child
object.

The default object name property seems to be (working) only for a page in the portlet.
I am quiet sure that it was not working when I did the customization of the factory
(jbp2.4.1).
(did some test,... ended with this solution).
I upgraded without looking at all this for 2.6. Of course it works like that.
Sure a better solution is to set it in the portals descriptor file, then the
DefaultPortalCommandFactory is set up with the one defined there.
For what I remember, the setting of default portal name was kind of hard coded to
"default" name.
Which is not a bad option... but when the default portal is "your wonderfull
portal", marketing wants to have an url with
"www.toto.com/.../.../your_wonderfull_portal/..." ;-)
CLASSES AND SERVICE INVOLVED ?
By the way : what are the classes and services involved in the process of reading the xml
descriptor files, and setting the portal object definition ?
I may need to add things to this process.
example : define a few "windows always in pages", to avoid put these windows
definition in all the pages definition.
inheriting page definition would be the best... but it is not in the JSR.
working at the portal container level would be a more compliant solution, no ?
another solution : using some xml include file, and play with these includes (if this
works).
but anyway interested in tips (documentation ?) about this internal portal process .
NAMING SUGGESTION
Also : "default" is not a really helping word.
when searching in source classes and service descriptors for "where all this is
coded", default is a word that is everywhere.
using a more specific word would be helpfull.
avoiding "portal" also.
"defPtal" ? "defaultJBPortal" ? "myPortalName" ?
idem for the url with "host/portal/portal/default"
all this portal is "search impossible".
for my portal, I used :
host/pcr/dc/myportalname
pcr : portal context root
dc : default command
for a general jboss release, I suggest :
pcr => portalCtx
dc => defaultPCommand
ending to url : host/portalCtx/defaultPCommand/defaultJBPortal
more explicit.
ok for newbe that needs to have a nice portal running out of the box
helpfull for the one that want to customize
helpfull for the guy who write the documentation.
loosing the nice : "start with http://localhost:8080/portal"
to "start with http://localhost:8080/portalCtx"

there are two person asking about that in the forum :

when doing some consulting, I see some portal in companies, that still have their url with
"/portal/portal/default".
this would be a nice feature for having a portal that can easily customize the url
prefix.
If I have some time, I will make at least a wiki about that.
but I am in the hurry for my main project, so... don't know when I can do that.

the issue have been closed, but the modification is not in the last version.
and seems that there is no way to really define the default portal.

This modification of the JMX Service is very light, and do not prevent any other way of
configuration (via the XML descriptor etc...).
it is only adding a property to the service : defaultPortalName
and allow it's configuration via the attributes of service descriptor.
and use it in the method that provide the default portal object.

but that is not really a way that a production can do.
they wants some packages to deploy.
and they cannot go into an interface (for each plateforme/appli they manage) for doing
some changes like this.
(same for the configuration in the database, which cannot be really managed for dev -

If they want packages to deploy then they need to feed the database. To feed the database
they can use *-object.xml
They should use the following:

The problem is that "portal.defaultObjectName" is not working.
I had looked deeply at the code when I opened the jira. (quite a long time ago...)
And the use of "default" is locked by hard coding in one of the class that is
involved in this process.
the class have a "default" string hard coded into it.
that's why I did this workaround, which is the most clean way I found.
but globally, it is true that it would be much better to have it in the -object.xml
descriptor.
I understand now why my solution (workaround) was not used in the JBP code....
but then, the xml tag must be working to provide the feature.

If not then we need to properly fix this instead of adding a workaround.

I don't know if it is working now.
and unfortunately, I won't be able to check this before few days... (I am working at a
client, far away from my machines).
several guys have complained about that in the forum post (recently)
http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=104612&a...
so I guess it is because they couldn't get it with the xml tag...
but may be they missed that.
I may look at all this in a few days, when available... but can't promise...
