[JBoss Portal] - Re: Default portal layout change problem

mholzner, thanks for the tip here and actually also in other Management Portlet subjects. I think I get a better picture now. And my problem solved too. What I found is that the Mangement Portlet keeps/maintains a 'secret' db of the objects. Probably (not sure) everytime jb portal startup, the db is also built up (by something) from the *-object.xml files or updated according to the <if-exists>overwrite</if-exists> or <if-exists>keep</if-exists> definitions. So <if-exists>keep</if-exists> means the changes will persist between restart of jboss / jboss portal. My mis-concept had been that the <if-exist> was for re-deployment of a portal applications or hot re-deployment. So I could not related it to the db. As a result I did not understand then why the object definitions could survive through jbp restart. Now I want to see what tables the Mangement Portlet updates. But I cannot find the source of the portlet, org.apache.myfaces.portlet.MyFacesGenericPortlet . Probably in apache project, not in jboss source. I wonder if I can clear those tables to clear all the existing db changes and let it rebuild with the *.xml defaults. It turns out that I had set the work-dir in a context.xml file a while back. This was causing JBoss to "clean up" my classes directory on sutdown. For some reason JBoss 3.2.6 was not doing this before. My reason for setting the working directory to deploy/MyApp/WEB-INF/classes in the first place was to make use of some precompiled JSPs generated during my build. I got around this by changing the scratch directory in Tomcat's web.xml file. If I manually delete the EJB JAR from the deploy directory, something weird happens. The TravelAgentBean/remote goes away when I refresh the list() operation of service=JNDIView, but TravelAgentBean itself does not! That seems like it might be causing the error above, which seems to want the new version of the TravelAgentBean but is somehow getting caught up with the old version that isn't being "released". Is there any way to force some kind of flush or refresh of JNDI to test if this is the case? What might be causing TravelAgentBean to remain when I delete the EJB JAR containing it? (Though TravelAgentBean/remote does go away.) This could be a timing issue with the hot deployer attempting to deploy things when not everything is updated/deployed yet. In that case, the best thing to do it to gather the necessary files in a temporary location on the same partition as JBoss, and then move the files to the deploy directory.
