I seem to have fixed this problem by doing the following in pages.xml: (Added code in bold) <page view-id="*"> | <navigation> | <rule if="#{not identity.loggedIn}"> | <redirect view-id="/WelcomePage.xhtml"> | <message>Invalid username or password entered</message> | </redirect> | </rule> | </navigation> | | <navigation from-action="#{userHome.logout}"> | <redirect view-id="/WelcomePage.xhtml"/> | </navigation> | </page> I don't see the NPE happening in the logs anymore and my error message is displayed to the user (along with the built in 'Login Failed' message). Seam is moving so fast that books will become outdated quickly. The manual is quite good and there are plenty of examples provided. This forum is the perfect substitute to the manual and examples. I prefer cutting edge software and the problems and advantages it brings to older products that have many published books and are not advancing anymore. Good news: I am able to import the "WrappedCallableStatement" file. The issue was due to the conflict between the same files at two different locations. Now I am having exception at the following line (Above code): cstmt.registerIndexTableOutParameter(1,maxTablLen,OracleTypes.VARCHAR,eleMaxLen); The exception is: "Unsupported feature". Whow, Jay, thanks for this. I really should have thought if this myself, sorry for that. My drl file was in the war/classes folder (don't really know why, I may have followed an example case). After moving it to the root ear dir, both approaches work. Your changes to web.xml and jboss-web.xml to enable datasource lookup are correct. And redeploying the war after the ear also makes sense - otherwise the classes in the war could still be referencing classes in the old ear.
