[JBoss Seam] - Are Seam-managed transactions limited to JSF?

I'm trying utilize a Seam-managed transaction for something other than a JSF component. After read some of the docs and looking at the code, it appears that Seam-managed transactions are limited to JSF. I am trying to marshall a Hibernate object, which is returned from a SessionBean, to XML via JAXB. I am looking for an elegant way of avoiding a LazyInitializationException. Thanks. Brad, I've managed to replicate your problem doing this: Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader(facesContext.getClass().getClassLoader()); inside FaceletsRenderer.render() (in the mail example facesContext is using the UCL). I'm not sure under what circumstances the context's classloader wouldn't be WebAppClassLoader, so can you print out the classloader on entry to both the working and not-working methods (i.e. before you do anything else) and post it - I'm wondering if something is altering the classloader in your code?! My steps say *exactly* what to do to run the booking example in JBoss with JSF 1.2! That's the title of the post. I just tried it (with the modified step 5), and it works like a charm. The booking example has nothing to do with MyFaces, except for the one line in web.xml, which the instructions tell you what to do with. Well this thread is about running the booking example on JBoss with JSF 1.2 RI. And I still can't do that. :-( The booking example deals with MyFaces or at least references it. Yet the suggested steps did not say what to do with it. I use Exadel Studio Pro and I know that they have to tweak the things to get JSF 1.2 + Facelets to deploy applications in Tomcat 5.5. [Persistence, JBoss/CMP, Hibernate, Database] - concurrent reading & read ahead with SimpleReadWriteEJBLock

Hello, In my project we need to use read-ahead strategies. I have a situation where concurrent read access to the bean have to be allowed. Since for the read-ahead strategies to work the transaction attribute must be Required/RequiresNew I have set it as Required. I have extended the Standard CMP entity bean and created a container configuration with SimpleReadWriteEJBLock as locking policy. For the beans I have specified the optimistic locking strategy with time-stamp column approach. The methods have a Required transaction attribute set. Now when concurrent read access occurs TrasactionRolledBackException is happening due to read time out. I cannot use read only entity beans since such beans are not part of transaction and read ahead strategies will have a negative performance impact. Can somebody provide some clues to fix the issue? What I need is, 1. Concurrent read access is permitted 2. read-ahead strategies should work properly Any Ideas? [Remoting] - Re: InvokerCallbackHandler.getSessionId() ?

Hi Tom, Yes I'd like to know which client the InvokerCallbackHandler is from so I can send a callback to a specific client. I'm investigating using remoting with something akin to a online chat system. I was planning on having some kind of custom login method, in which I would get the InvocationRequest.getSessionId() and link it to the username. I'd then like to link the InvokerCallbackHandler to that username also, so its possilbe to send a callback to a specific user. For example if user1 wants to send a chat message to user2 only. If there is some other best practice for this kind of situation please let me know. If you are just trying to get started with Seam, don't bother with JBoss 5. Instead, follow the instructions right at the top of this thread to run Seam and JSF 1.2 on JBoss 4.0.5. (It *is* possible!) BUT: Step 5 has changed - in the above it reads: (5) remove el-*.jar from examples/booking/resources/WEB-INF/lib In more recent releases of Seam, you will notice that this directory does not exist. So what you need to do instead is remove the EL jar declarations from examples/booking/application.xml.
