Hi, I was able to fix the issue. It turns out that I needed to access the SLSB as follows in the client: ReadCrimeReport readCrimeReport = (ReadCrimeReport)context.lookup("ReadCrimeReport/remote"); Please note ".../remote" in the lookup. This is localised through java.text.DateFormatSymbols so I don't think you can arbitrarily override the strings (but read up on DateFormatSymbols). Try seam-gen, it generates CRUD views/beans for you from a database schema. You can take the techniques used and extend them for your app as needed. There is no need to shout. The createStreamReader method is attempting to create an InputStreamReader, but whatever arguments it is passing to the constructor are causing a null pointer exception , probably passing a null argument. Since the code is yours, you need to find out why you are passing a null argument to that constructor. The Seam user guide that comes as a pdf file in the seam download (approx. 250 pgs) is a very decent "book" as well. Another good intro (maybe the best?) is the relatively short chapter on Seam in King's/Bauer's Hibernate/JPA book... The practical jboss seam book gives some insight into topics like how the @Name Seam components get loaded at application deployment time. It's a pretty decent book so far, especially if it's your first Seam book. Otherwise, it re-hashes a lot of material the others have already gone over... I think I see a potential problem. You are deploying EJBs so I'd imagine that you are deploying them as an EAR file, but you specify your loader repository in jboss-web.xml rather than jboss-app.xml. I don't think that will apply to the EJBs if it's even picked up by JBoss at all. Without that your EJBs would not be bound under testPro and the exception you are getting would make sense.
