Thanks for the tip alessio. Unfortunately, it didn't really help. What I discovered, after some searching, is that injection doesn't work in 4.2.2GA and that the method I was using was correct in this case (5.0 is supposed to fix this issue, so I may upgrade to the beta eventually, after I get a better grasp of why things work in general). But I needed one more step: reference the size() for a set contained within the retrieved db object while in the current transaction. This eliminated all errors on the server side. The problem now is that the same set within that db object cannot be returned to the remote caller because of some problem converting from the set to XML (which causes some kind of infinite xml loop). I can return a value from the db object, but not the object. See http://forums.java.net/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=13670&start=15. I'll move this discussion over to the EJB3.0 forum now, as this appears to be specific to that part of JBOSS 4.2.2GA. Thanks again. [Beginners Corner] - "Only a type can be imported. myPackage.myClass resolves to

Hello all, I am getting an, "Only a type can be imported. myPackage.myClass resolves to a package." exception when running a simple .jsp with the following import statement: <%@ page import="myPackage.myClass" %>. I tripple checked that myClass is indeed a class, and that myPackage is the full and correct package name. If I remove the import statement, the application runs sucessfully. I am running the web-app within Eclipse using JBoss version 4.2 and Eclipse version 3.3.0. I suspect this is a runtime configuration issue. I get this exception regardless if I include the source jar file in the Java Resources : src/ directory. Has anyone seen this problem before? I am running out of ideas an welcome any ideas. JBoss 4.2.2.GA Testsuite

All, I have been having some trouble lately running the testsuite for the JBoss_4_2_2_GA branch in svn. I have attempted to run these tests both other Mac OX X 10.5.1 and Solaris 10 with no luck. Each failure seems related to a server instance either taking too long to start, or not starting at all. Currently, I am running: $ cd testsuite && sh build.sh tests Any help would be quite welcome! [JBoss Seam] - How to get http session id

This may be more of a JSF question that a Seam one, and if so, I apologize. In my past web apps, I've been able to get the http session id by asking the HttpServletRequest for it, but that was in a servlet environment that I managed. Max, By disable, do you mean "ignore"? I seem to have been able to turn off the validation by changing all of the validation elements for Seam to "ignore". I'll look into the second method which would be to totally disable the validation - though I really do like the concept. Hi, Yes, I changed the Scope to CONVERSATION, but omit the @Begin and @END tags. The page get's loaded (calling the Create method) and then submit the page again (persist). Then the conversation is ended. Are there any recommendations about how to use the Scope. I am asking because stick the bean to the session context compared to the conversation should result in less resources (Memory). Or is there some more overhead to take into account? [JBoss Portal] - New Session Id generated on every AJAX call when SSL is enab

Hi All, I am making an AJAX call in one of my jsp pages. When I login to the portal with normal HTTP url, and make the AJAX call, the session Id for the AJAX request remains the same everytime. However, the behavior changes when I login to portal with HTTP/S protocol. Now, everytime the AJAX request generates new session id. Is this normal behavior? What needs to be done if I need the same session id to be used for each AJAX request? [JBoss Seam] - Page Parameter Pains.

I have a stateless view page for a widget and multiple lists of widget detail records in data tables in a rich:tab. I pass in the widgetId as a parameter to fetch and display the view, and use page parameters to maintain state in a stateless view as the user interacts with it. I'm finding some nasty side effects of page parameters. For each widget detail, I have a rich:tab containing a data table that displays the widget detail and my own little paginator facelet that uses the EntityQuery methods for next, first, last, prev etc... Being stateless, I need to pass the first result for each subdetail each time so the entity query knows where to start displaying results from. My pages.xml for the page looks like this : | <page view-id="widgetView.xhtml"> | <param name="widgetId" value="#{widgetHome.id}" required="false" | converterId="javax.faces.Long" /> | <param name="subDetailAFirst" required="false" | value="#{subDetailsAQuery.firstResult}" /> | <param name="subDetailsBFirst" required="false" | value="#{subDetailsBQuery.firstResult}" /> | </page> | | (There are 5 sub details each with a tab containing a table and a paginator) This works, and works extremely well, it was a piece of cake to develop, and it's times like this that Seam rocks. However, it has a problem. Obviously, since I use page params, anytime I do an s:link to the page, Seam tries to add the parameters and since there are none, it creates the EntityQueries to try and obtain the parameter values. Obviously this is not the desired result. This problem also happens for search pages with bookmarkeable results when the search pages are linked from a page, or even worse, a menu which is re-used across a number of pages. Normally when you have a link to a page with page parameters for which you know there is no value (i.e. the contactId in the add contact link in the seam contact example), you can add it manually to the s:link so seam doesn't try to add it. This is somewhat acceptable to a point. It seems a little clumsy to have to do that for each of the 5 parameters, for every link that references the page, and will need to be modified if I ultimately add a 6th sub detail table with pagination. One option is to put it into a conversation and make it stateful which works, but apart from being a little unnecessary, and overkill for a view page, it comes with it's own trickses. When you change tabs, and it involves a datafetch, and you go back to the original tab, the data is nulled out because a sql query flushed the entity manager and nulled out the existing data entities. Going back to a stateless solution, it seems that a better option is to make page parameters optional (similar to the required attribute for @In and @Out bijection) so that if the object isn't there, and it is optional, then no object is created and no parameter is added. I couldn't find an existing JIRA, anyone have any thoughts on the matter? Should I not worry about multiple objects being created per request for no reason? Yes, it is supposed to work. Page parameters can be used on posts. It should work as listed, my only hesitation is regarding the issue of a file upload. I have forms with page parameters that are sent back and forth in form POSTs. Try it without the form upload, just a button which calls a blank method that returns null. [JBoss Seam] - Page parameter propagation not working?

Hi there, I have a page with a Gallery.page.xml looking like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> | <page xmlns="http://jboss.com/products/seam/pages" | xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" | xsi:schemaLocation="http://jboss.com/products/seam/pages http://jboss.com/products/seam/pages-2.0.xsd" | login-required="true"> | | <param name="tankId" value="#{tankHome.tankId}" required="true"/> | | </page> | This works great when you link to the page with things like <s:link view="/Gallery.xhtml" value="Gallery"/>. Basically tankId is populated when you use GET parameters. Within the Gallery.xhtml page I have a form that allows for picture uploading. When I hit the upload button I get javax.faces.validator.ValidatorException: value is requiredIf I remove the required="true" attribute from the param it works like a charm. Only thing is I have no way of enforcing that a valid id is being provided. I thought that this stuff gets automatically populated if I stay withinn the same page and the page parameter is set? It work for links but not for JSF form submissions. I also tried this <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> | <page xmlns="http://jboss.com/products/seam/pages" | xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" | xsi:schemaLocation="http://jboss.com/products/seam/pages http://jboss.com/products/seam/pages-2.0.xsd" | login-required="true"> | | <param name="tankId" value="#{tankHome.tankId}" /> | <restrict>#{tankHome.tankId != null}</restrict> | | </page> but with this I get org.jboss.seam.security.AuthorizationException: Authorization check failed for expression [#{tankHome.tankId != null}] when I submit the upload form. Again the entire upload thing works fine as long as I don't try to validate/restrict the tankId/tankHome in page.xml. I wonder if I got some concepts of auto parameter propagation wrong or if this is a bug? My current application is also one big ear with one jar that contains all of my custom code. I would love to break my own application up in this way. Having complex parts of Seam applications pluggable would be fantastic. I also like to see best practices on building larger applications based on smaller reusable modules. Wouldn't it rock to be able to include seam-forum.jar and wire it up with components.xml into custom applications. I already use seam security. I would just control access and users from there. please report such things with info on how big the projects are and if there some specific files that seem to take extra long! with respect to validation enable/disable then look in the preferences for Seam Validator - here you can enable/disable specific kinds of validation but if you want it fully disable them just look under Validation where you can enable/disable the Seam validator totally if needed. Problem solved. The error handling in this case could not be accomplished by catching EntityExistsException, since PersistenceExceptions except for NoResultException and NonUniqueException mark the transaction for rollback, causing it to be unavailable for the next iteration of addRootItem(). The existence check had to come first and, if it doesn't exist, Query.getSingleResult() throws NoResultException, which can then be handled properly because it does not cause a transaction rollback. Sure enough, when I tested this on Linux, it worked. I think the classpath ordering, as shown in one of my posts above is a Maven issue. However, Mac OS X isn't the only platform this does not work on. [JBoss Tools (users)] - Need way to turn off Seam validator...

The Seam validator as currently implemented is very troublesome. It runs after each save; furthermore, when it does run, it is using roughly 80-95% of available CPU power as it goes through each and every Seam component, JSF page, and more, just to report back a bunch of warnings. There has to be a way to turn it off!? Please help. The Seam validator concept is great; if it is to be worked on in future releases, the speed/performance of the validation routine could be much improved! Thank you. Hi I am developing web content management system and problems below are the fundamental ones. I cannot find any help throughout the web so will you be so kind and share your knowledge ;] Is there any way of saving the user HttpSession/ejb conversational state into persistent storage or maybe somehow serializing that information and then restore it after server restart or update of deployed applications? [JBoss Tools (users)] - Only loading Seam components that are currently open

Since upgrading to Seam 2.0 and providing the Seam settings dialog window with the Seam 2.0 runtime (which seems a bit buggy, it doesn't show up right away) - I am not only getting code completion for components that are currently open in my Eclipse app. For example, if I have 10 Seam components but only two open in the editor, I can only get code completion on those two open components. I have tried reloading the project, turning off/off Seam support, and so forth. When I had been running JBoss Tools with the Seam 1.2 runtime, all of my components showed up! Does this have to do with the JSF Capabilities option being turned off? Is this the way it should be since I'm now using the Seam 2.0 runtime? It's greyed out and not selectable now... Thoughts anyone? Please...
