[Persistence, JBoss/CMP, Hibernate, Database] - Meaning of InUseConnectionCount

What is the exact Meaning of of the MBean Attribute InUseConnectionCount on jboss.jca:service: ManagedConnectionPool ? Is it as the name might suggest the number of used connections at a given moment (what exactly determines if a connection is used?) I am courious because I am monitoring an application which has under considerable load a InUseConnectionCount between 0 and 2 (max 8). The colleagues who configured it expected up to 800 concurrent connections (max-pool-size). Might this hint at a bug in the BMP implemenation? Right, JBoss Portal at this point requires JBoss AS to run. The JBoss Portlet Container 2.0 doesn't have this requirement though. Slowly we are removing the dependencies on JBoss AS. This is not a problem of using too much JBoss AS Services, it "only" requires to move on the new microcontainer and delegate the services to another container or embed the JBoss AS ones. It is something we want to achieve but there are many other priorities. Contributions could help in that manner, this is not an easy task though.
