[EJB 3.0] - Re: Unit test EJB3 Exception

I use the same JVM that the EJB is deployed and have added the jbossall-cliente.jar and it doesn't work at all, I get the same exception. My EJB application is running when i execute the unit test. Is This right ? Oops, my bad... Local interfaces can be cast directly: MyLocal local = (MyLocal) ctx.lookup("MyBean/local"); Probably a "narrow" would even result in error. By the way, with EJB3, the "narrow" is even for remote interfaces no longer required, direct casting is possible. And one more thing: a Unit test probably means that you are using a remote application client? Then, shouldn't you use the remote interface? As far as I know, this is the only solution and no other solution is in development. From what I understand, it has to to with looking up the IP address for a host name, and vice versa. So the mapping has to be somewhere. By the way, you said you were upgrading from 4 to 5. Was that 4.0.x or 4.2.x? I ask because between 4.0.x and 4.2.0 the default binding was changed from 0.0.0.0 to 127.0.0.1. This could have something to do with this issue - ages ago one of my colleagues noticed that setting -b 0.0.0.0 in 4.2.x was not exactly the same as running 4.0.x without the -b option, though I do not recall the specific issue. Java does allow setting the keep-alive parameter programatically on a socket. It appears from the Javadocs, however, that this value is binary (set to 2 hours or nothing). I've made some progress on this issue. By adding logging for the WebappClassLoader, I am able to see where the failure is. Depending on which JARs I'm missing, the errors are more or less obvious - here is an obvious one, where commons-beanutils is missing: | 2009-03-25 11:09:33,033 DEBUG [org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader] Could not clean fields for class org.apache.commons.digester.SetPropertyRule | java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/beanutils/DynaProperty | Other not-so-obvious errors look like the log snippet below. The first four lines of this output show that it's trying to load a class from the missing commons-digester JAR. It fails to find the class and delegates to java.net.FactoryURLClassLoader. Now, there are other classes that the container provides that show the exact same text as this, so unless one knows that commons-digester is not included with the container, the error won't stand out to them. I added DEBUG logging for java.net.FactoryURLClassLoader to see if I could follow the problem a bit more, but nothing showed up in my logs for this class. As a side-note, I couldn't help but notice the lines following those four - the ones about log4j. They seem unrelated, but these lines only show up in a few places, and one of those places happens to be after an attempt to load a class that doesn't exist (coincidence?). [Performance Tuning] - Re: when does java release commited memory back to the OS

According to your heap settings, the JVM will use at least 150MB for the heap, but can use as much as 600MB. Apparently, the JVM has at this time increased the heap size to 295MB, of which only 103MB is in use. The non-heap memory usage is for the thread stacks, the JVM's C/C++ data structures and other odds and ends. By the way, your new size setting (-Xmn) practically guarantees full GCs every time, and full GCs are about way more expensive (10 - 100 times) than minor GCs. Typically this is fixed by ensuring you've got $JBOSS_HOME/client/jbossall-client.jar defined. But I see some other issues. * Your Unit Test is set up in a different JVM from the container? If so you'll need to lookup a business remote reference (ie. @Remote). * Don't push local component or local business proxies through PortableRemoteObject.narrow...this is for the EJB 2.x remote home view only. Does your response imply that this is the only "workaround", and that there is no plan to allow the overriding of this behaviour, or rather that this is a known issue, fix pending, but in the meantime, use this workaround? I'm hoping the later - in the environment presented to me, I simply cannot rely on network services being present and available, at least not at this time. Thanks for the confirmation, thought!
