A process is an execution, but an execution does not need to be a process. The best example is when a fork is used. Each leg has its own execution... So passing on the execution ID is the safest thing to do. But an execution can have multiple activities. I can find no instance of JBW making a copy of directories. I only see a reference to making an exploded copy of web archive files using VFSUtils.unjar(root) in https://svn.jboss.org/repos/jbossas/trunk/server/src/main/java/org/jboss/... With this is mind, I am not sure the StructureModificationChecker really helps much since the only copies are from unjared web archives, the modification check only makes sense against the original war file, and if it has been modified, the whole works would need to be unjared again. So there wouldn't be any file by file changes to sync. I did some further digging on the use of ModificationType and ModificationActions. Outside of tests I do not see any usage of custom modification types/actions for any deployers. Is this still in use? Just to clarify, I have been using a state-node. I refactored the code to do all external work and then signal the ProcessEngine when done in another class that the listener instantiates. I'm still getting the same exeption. You guys did bring up a good point: I have an idea that I may be passing on the wrong ID to the executionService.signalExecutionById()method. From what I understand, you are suppoed to be paasing on the current process instance's execution ID. So I don't think they should change.
