The pom.xml is not a factor in this error - I use Maven2 for my builds and JBossAS has no problems with the addition Maven2 artifacts. What could be a factor, though, is that you are using JDK 1.6 and JBossAS 4.0.2 is not qualified to run in 1.6. Try running with JDK 1.5 instead. Also, where is the jar file located? In the ear?
