The problem occurs because no invoker proxy bindings have been configured. The fix to JBAS-4444, http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBAS-4444, effectively makes it a requirement that these bindings be configured. Since I'm unfamiliar with JBoss 4.2.2, I don't know when it might be desirable to configure proxy bindings but a minor change to the code, see http://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBAS-5475, seems to deal with the problem.
