That's the problem. You downloaded the JDK6 version of JBoss-4.2.3 GA and are using it
with JDK5. You have two options:
1) Set JAVA_HOME to point to JDK6 and start JBoss.
2) Or Download the JDK5 version of the server from here

and use it with JDK5.
