Besides the version number, could you also report the size of the zip file and the size of the installation directory? For 4.0.4.GA, the zip file should be 73.8MB, and the installation directory should be 86.1MB (as reported by Explorer). Did you run md5sum after downloading the file to verify that it was correct? Also, what folders are in the c:/jboss/server/default directory? What files are in c:/jboss/server/default/conf?
