Sounds like something related to JBCACHE-1165.
Isolation level of NONE always causes issues since there is no locking whatsoever between
threads - not even read locks.
With REPEATABLE_READ you have timeout issues? I'd recommend focusing on R_R and the
latest SP release from 1.4.1.
