Ok, I just found out that it behaves the way it does for the strange file upload issue. If
I comment out the dataTable part inside the form, the action listener is called.
I am using JBoss AS 4.0.5.GA, JBoss Seam 1.2.1.GA and JDK 1.6/1.5.
No matter which JDK I use to compile my source code, the behaviour is still the same.
