If you have not made any configuration changes, use:
shutdown -S
By configuration changes, I mean changing the jndi port or securing the jmx invoker.
Also, doing a CTRL-C in the window running jbossas acceptable mechanism to shut it down.
JBossAS implements a shutdown listener and performs an orderly shutdown in this case.
