Well, amazingly, I've been able to solve this one on my own (a rarity!).
I put the jboss-messaging-client.jar in the $JBOSS_HOME/server/<server instance>/lib
directory and all my problems went away. It's not perfect, but at this point I'll
take anything I can get.
