This was a copy and paste error. The #{counter.text} will call the following function in the "Counter" JavaBean. public String getText() { return "Counter ID:" + thisCountersId + " Value: " + value; } It is needed in order for the conversationsList object to work. I think it said somewhere, that you have to set the description.
