Try this-
go to jboss-portal.sar/portal-cms.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml
In there wherever you find HibernatePeristenceManager replace with
JBossCachePeristenceManager
then go to your server configuration and blow away your data folder
Restart and see if this fixes it
