I tried the above and it didn't work. IIRC it failed in KnowledgeBuilder. Then I tried <conditionExpression xsi:type="tFormalExpression" language=" http://www.jboss.org/drools/rule http://www.jboss.org/drools/rule">PIvars(applicationReady == true);</conditionExpression> The Gateway ignored it.
