Ok, didn't realize that messaging 1.2 deployment is the scoped sar. i.e. ignore step 2 in the wiki and use step 3. Except change the loader-repository from: remotejms:loader=RemoteJMSRepository - as in the wiki example to: jboss.messaging:loader=ScopedLoaderRepository - as in jboss-messaging.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml And its working!
