Have you heard of JarJar? http://www.sixlegs.com/blog/java/depfind.html And for your application, classloader isolation actually works fairly well. If you use the right directive, JBoss will load your commons-collections first for classes in your deployment. And I found out at JavaOne about this new JSR to help with these problems.
