I took a look at JBREM-1292 and it does look promising as fix to my issue with the 2.2.4 jar.  I was running revision 6304.  Unfortunately I'm locked out of trying anything with my clients production environment unless we run into a string of server crashes that we can't seem to tune our way out of, then I can suggest 2.2.4 again.  If it happens, I'll get you an update, but so far they're in a stable situation.
