[JBoss JIRA] Created: (TEIID-669) Support "pass though" SQL commands to sources
by Ramesh Reddy (JIRA)
Support "pass though" SQL commands to sources
---------------------------------------------
Key: TEIID-669
URL: https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/TEIID-669
Project: Teiid
Issue Type: Feature Request
Components: Query Engine
Reporter: Ramesh Reddy
Assignee: Steven Hawkins
Fix For: 6.2.0
Currently there is no mechanism in Teiid, when a query is submitted to a runtime engine that is passed through the query engine unadulterated and unmodified and submitted directly to a source connector. All queries are parsed, optimized, re-written. Some times this limits the functionality in Teiid, when a user would like to execute a query that is very "source" specific. For example Oracle supports lots of Oracle specific functions that are not supported by the SQL spec, to support execution of these in Teiid user need to resort to UDF, which is cumbersome and involves modelling.
Another benefit of this is also to pass DDL to sources, currently since Teiid does not support DDL, this is not possible at all.
There is no-expectation that these queries are part of any data integration, these are one off queries that enhance user experience with Teiid if they use this feature. Command Payload mechanism is similar system that is used for authentication and authorization needs at the connector level, this feature can use similar techniques or use some custom extension to the language to define a query etc.

[JBoss JIRA] Created: (TEIID-1241) Create a WSDL based WS Resource Adapter
by Steven Hawkins (JIRA)
Create a WSDL based WS Resource Adapter
---------------------------------------
Key: TEIID-1241
URL: https://jira.jboss.org/browse/TEIID-1241
Project: Teiid
Issue Type: Feature Request
Components: Misc. Connectors
Affects Versions: 7.2
Reporter: Steven Hawkins
Assignee: Steven Hawkins
Fix For: 7.2
The current WS resource adapter was designed for low-level usage, which doesn't even consult a WSDL. It would be good though to update the existing adapter (or introduce a new) to utilize a WSDL. The WSDL would be used to expose the operations through connector metadata, so that the translator could create the corresponding procedures model.service.port.binding.operation(arg...). Import options could be used to limit the import to only particular services/ports.
The WSDL based approach would also allow for the CXF configuration to apply to more than a single port and to more easily allow the policy definition for WS security.
Additional semantic support for RPC could be considered, but would need to use JAX-RPC

[JBoss JIRA] Created: (TEIID-1432) Getting SocketTimeout Exceptions on long running queries with CXF

Getting SocketTimeout Exceptions on long running queries with CXF
------------------------------------------------------------------
Key: TEIID-1432
URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/TEIID-1432
Project: Teiid
Issue Type: Bug
Components: Salesforce Connector
Affects Versions: 7.1.1
Environment: Latest Teiid 7.1.1 on EAP 5.1 with CXF
Reporter: Wanja Pernath
Assignee: Steven Hawkins
After following the recommendation of using CXF for salesforce connector, I am getting SocketTimeOutExceptions when executing long running queries.
According to this page, CXF has a default socket timeout of 60seconds. However, in some circumstances, 60seconds is too less to let Teiid running against Salesforce:
https://cwiki.apache.org/CXF20DOC/client-http-transport-including-ssl-sup...
This page also describes how to set a longer timeout period. I have not found a way of specifying a better timeout neither in teiid docs nor in the teiid source.
Would it be possible to have a timeout of 5minutes or - even better - have a configurable timeout (evtl. configured within the -ds.xml of the teiid datasource)?

[JBoss JIRA] Created: (TEIID-1460) Have teiid emulate a native postgresql database connection

Have teiid emulate a native postgresql database connection
----------------------------------------------------------
Key: TEIID-1460
URL: https://issues.jboss.org/browse/TEIID-1460
Project: Teiid
Issue Type: Feature Request
Components: Server
Affects Versions: 7.3
Environment: All environments
Reporter: Graeme Gillies
Assignee: Steven Hawkins
Priority: Minor
Currently we are using postgresql-odbc, and unixODBC to connect to teiid via the emulated postgresql ODBC connection on port 35432. Unfortunately, this is cumbersome to use, requires fiddling with setting up ODBC, and is difficult for integration into non-java languages (that have to use the ODBC connection).
What we would like is for teiid to emulate a postgresql database such that we can point typical postgresql tools (such as psql) to port 35432 (or some other port) and they will "work". That would also allow us to use each languages native/preferred method of connecting to a postgresql database to connect to teiid. E.g. DBD::Postgres for perl, ruby-pg for ruby, pg/pgdb in python, etc.

Nested correlated reference issue with rewritten queries
--------------------------------------------------------
Key: TEIID-1374
URL: https://jira.jboss.org/browse/TEIID-1374
Project: Teiid
Issue Type: Bug
Components: Query Engine
Affects Versions: 7.0
Reporter: Steven Hawkins
Assignee: Steven Hawkins
In a query such as "select * from bqt1.smalla where exists (select intnum from bqt1.smalla x where smalla.intnum = x.intnum and exists (select intnum from bqt1.smalla where exists (select intnum from bqt1.smalla x where smalla.intnum = x.intnum)))" we will inappropriately report that the top exists subquery has 2 correlated references since we see the more deeply nested smalla.intnum also.
This is generally not a issue, it can introduce errors in places where subqueries are rewritten, such as with subquery optimization or inherently updatable view queries.

translator scoped result set caching
------------------------------------
Key: TEIID-1598

Project: Teiid
Issue Type: Feature Request
Reporter: Mark Addleman
Assignee: Steven Hawkins
Priority: Minor
Something Steven mentioned in Teiid-1589 got me thinking: It would be helpful for individual translators to request that Teiid cache results sets that match the query as presented to the execution factory (after the planner is done rewriting the query based on the translator's capabilities).
I envision a new method on an Execution getCacheTtlMs() where zero or negative indicates that Teiid shouldn't cache the results.
