I recommend that this should not hold up the patch as it is unlikely that someone would be relying upon this scenario.
This will happen with parseDate as well, just not in the above example as format string does not match the default.
We'll have to add trim/substring to the rewritten expression to prevent this, which will complicate the push-down expression. We may need to consider adding a flag to parseXXX to make it stricter - although that could require re-implementing the JRE logic.

I have google spreadsheet table smalla with defined header columns intkey, intnum and other (see attached screenshot).
Following query doesn't insert NULL value to column intnum:
INSERT INTO smalla(intnum, intkey) values (null, 562)
Instead, it inserts 562 to intnum and NULL to intkey.
(Server log shows no exception)
INSERT works correctly if none of the inserted values is NULL.

I think this is not the case - see the attached screenshot of the table (teiid-4666.png)
And I can run successfully queries like "delete from smalla where intkey=0", "insert into smalla(intkey) values(556)".

Look at TEIID-3216 and it mentions:
headers - update, delete and and insert statements will be supported only for the spreadsheets that have a header for each column (headers are in the first row of a spreadsheet)
Is this the case with this issue that your spreadsheet doesn't have column headers?

Query "DELETE FROM smalla" where smalla is table throws exception:
