Hi Jay The time table is shown at the bottom of this page: http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/events/google/gsoc2012 There seems to be a short period, April 6 until April 20 when mentors get to review the applications before having to make a decision. Then by the wording, it looks like we rank the applicants - and then I guess an automated process will allocate the top ranking student, who also wants to do the project. I'm a first timer as well, but that appears to be what happens.
