Long story short, it's all in Maven now.
(1) might fail on some doc generation but as long as the snapshot are
published to your local repo you're good.
Also make sure to use the proper maven settings

You might want to update your source again. I finally completed
HSEARCH-82 today and
converted Hibernate Search to a maven only build. All obsolete ant
files are now removed.

http://hibernate.org/449.html is obsolete. I am in the
process of updating it.
