testsuite for JBossWeb?
by Bill Burke
How is JBossWeb tested? The unit tests under jbossweb/test are slim
pickings. Is there some other codebase somewhere that's used to test
it? TCK obviously, but what else?

jmx monitoring pass-through
by Sebastian Otaegui
Hello,
Let me start by giving some background of what I am working on and then I
will ask the question related to jboss 7.
I am configuring jmx monitoring with a solarwinds plugin (or any jmx plugin
that is not part of JON)
In jboss 4.3.0 eap you need to add -Djboss.platform.mbeanserver
And then setup the jvm jmx as shown in (
http://community.jboss.org/wiki/JBossMBeansInJConsole)
The problem is that the jmx provided by the sun jvm (and as far as I've seen
also the same goes for openjdk) does not provide a property to set the
host/ip that will listen. If you run more than one jboss instance per
machine then you have to start maintaining the config for each individual
configuration and setup ports that do not overlap.
So here is the question related to as7.
Would it be too hard to so something like what is seen in this link (
http://vafer.org/blog/20061010091658/) or even using a different approach,
so we can enable the jvm jmx and at the same time be able to bind an
interface defined in the jboss config?
I think it would add a bit of value to have something like that (may be is
already implemented).
Thanks in advance.

Those who do not understand Unix are condemned to reinvent it, poorly.
Any sufficiently recent Microsoft OS contains an ad hoc,
informally-specified, bug-ridden, slow implementation of half of Unix.

Serializing Data in the Modular World
by Jason T. Greene
Hi Everyone,
I wrote up an article today that talks about the issues (and solutions)
of serializing in a modular (or any multi-classloader) environment:
http://community.jboss.org/wiki/ModularSerialization
If you are developing any kind of component that sends data on AS7, then
please give this a read.
As an example of the application of this information, ejb3 remote
communication is being developed to follow solution 3.

API Feedback Releases: ShrinkWrap Descriptors 1.2.0-alpha Series
by Andrew Lee Rubinger
Hi all:
Last week we made available ShrinkWrap Descriptors 1.2.0-alpha-1.
The scope of this project is very simple: Provide a object model DSL for
metadata. For instance:
final WebAppDescriptor desc = Descriptors.create(WebAppDescriptor.class)
.createSessionConfig().sessionTimeout(timeout)
.getOrCreateCookieConfig().name(name).domain(domain)
.path(path).maxAge(maxAge).up()
.trackingMode(TrackingModeType._COOKIE.name()).up();
final String exported = desc.exportAsString();
As contrasted with jboss-metadata, this intentionally does not take into
account concerns like business logic (ie. validation, setting default
values) or merging. Also the implementation uses our own manual
hierarchal state, so it's much faster than something like JAXB.
I'd like to invite everyone to check it out. Everything in the api-spec
and api-jboss modules is subject to change, and we'll want to ensure the
API is something we're comfortable we're supporting before this reaches
a Beta-level release.
http://jboss.hudson.alrubinger.com/job/Descriptors/javadoc/
https://github.com/shrinkwrap/descriptors
A large portion of this development has come from the community, which
is something we're very proud to say.
S,
ALR

Problem compiling an XSLT stylesheet file
by RW Shore
(slightly more detail at http://community.jboss.org/thread/173303?tstart=0 )
Environment: JBoss 7.0.2, Java 1.7.0-b147, OS Ubuntu
I have a JMX MBean which throws the following when trying to compile an XSLT
stylesheet using a transformer gotten from the factory built via
TransformerFactory.getInstance():
Caused by: javax.xml.transform.TransformerConfigurationException: Could not
compile stylesheet
at
org.apache.xalan.xsltc.trax.TransformerFactoryImpl.newTemplates(TransformerFactoryImpl.java:832)
at
__redirected.__TransformerFactory.newTemplates(__TransformerFactory.java:137)
at
com.cst.chetx.core.bean.transform.TransformDataSupport.loadFromUrl(TransformDataSupport.java:215)
at
com.cst.chetx.core.bean.transform.TransformDataSupport.loadTemplateSequence(TransformDataSupport.java:269)
... 14 more
This stylesheet compiles file in a non-JBoss environment, using factory
com.sun.org.apache.xalan.internal.xsltc.trax.TransformerFactoryImpl. I
suspect an undocumented limitation of some sort in the JBoss-supplied
transformer environment.
1. Is there any way for my ear file to use the default TransformerFactory
rather than the JBoss supplied one? Note that the getInstance(className,
null) builder throws a NoClassDefFound exception if I try to name the above
factory.
2. Any other suggestion for getting my stylesheet to compile (and ultimately
run)?

Security Audit events sent to an audit trail
by Anil Saldhana
Hi,
we had this feature in AS6 where the security events in web and ejb
layer were sent to an audit framework that got sent to a sink. By
default, we sent to the jboss logging framework which took in the server
log settings, to yield audit.log
I am wondering if we can have something similar so that system
administrators can collect all security audit entries (successful/failed
login) in one place for all subsystems that do security.
Thoughts?

Anil

Expressions
by Heiko Braun
I am currently adding support for expression to the console. Some questions upfront:
- Do we have ambiguous property types? i.e. a property that is allowed to be of ModelType.STRING or ModelType.EXPRESSION ?
- If it is distinct (only one type allowed) then I could identify all the places where Expression can be used, right?
- Or are Expression allowed to used as a replacement for any ModelType across the whole configuration?

Removal of server configurations
by Heiko Braun
Currently it's possible to remove server configuration that have running instances. I'am currently preventing this within the console. But shouldn't there be a server side check when the :remove() is invoked? IMO a simple exception would be enough do handle this case.
