[Beginners Corner] - Re: Datasource config not showing errors

I've tracked this down a bit more. I was setting up an exploded webapp directory in the 'default\deploy\jbossweb-tomcat55.sar\server.xml' file. It looks like it wasn't using the login config when I did that. When I put the war file into the deploy directory, things work fine. So, I'm going to look this up, but does anybody have a link to setting up an exploded directory? I have been working in development on a tomcat instance for a long time because I couldn't get the exploded directory to work (its all coming back to me now). Added slight change to init() as follows: --------------------------------------- super.init(); getPortletContext().setAttribute("org.apache.myfaces.SERIAL_FACTORY", new org.apache.myfaces.shared_impl.util.serial.DefaultSerialFactory ()); And I can confirm I now have it working with facelets without StartupServletContextListener in web.xml. The usual Exception telling me that StartupServletContextListener has not been added has reappeared in the logs, but things seem to be working at the moment. Thanks guys - you're stars! One thing to check is if the message cache is being used. There is an MBean with cache hits and misses. Miss would mean it's loading messages from the DB. For reference, the code that's NPEing is this: | 941 protected void setupMessageAcknowledgement(Subscription sub, | MessageReference messageRef) throws JMSException | 942 { | 943 SpyMessage message = messageRef.getMessage(); | 944 AcknowledgementRequest ack = new AcknowledgementRequest(); | 945 ack.destination = message.getJMSDestination(); | message is null. >From what I've seen, the only way the message could be null is if it was swapped to the cache store (your database?) and was not found later on. Unfortunately, I don't see any way you might be able to diagnose this yourself. If you could add more logging to PersistenceManager to see if this is happening, that'd be great. I think filing a JIRA issue would be good as well. [Persistence, JBoss/CMP, Hibernate, Database] - upgrade jboss but not hibernate

I am trying to upgrade a jboss application from 3.2.6 to the latest 4.0.4. We are currently using hibernate 2.1. I am trying to keep us on the same version of hibernate to minimize code changes (http://www.hibernate.org/250.html). However I am getting an error when I run my first hibernate lookup: 09:17:41,337 ERROR [JDBCExceptionReporter] null, message from server: "Unknown column 'insgroups0_.name' in 'order clause'" 09:17:41,339 ERROR [...] could not initialize collection: [net.insurance.common.vo.User.insGroups#25] This code runs fine in JBoss 3.2.6. What is the best way to convert the application? All the information about how to do this appears to be outdated: http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossHibernateSwitching >From the section Switching from Hibernate3 to Hibernate2: "Simply delete the existing deploy/jboss-hibernate.deployer from your system and drop in the Hibernate2-based jboss-hibernate.deployer." I have no jboss-hibernate.deployer on my system, and when I dropped the hibernate 2 based deployer it doesn't make any difference. Currently my ant script deloys the ant jars to the server/all/lib directory (cglib-full-2.0.2.jar, hibernate2.jar, odmg-3.0.jar). Additionaly I replaced the jboss-hibernate.jar with the one from JBoss 3.2.6. I also deleted cglib.jar, and hibernate3.jar from the lib directory. None of these changes had any effect.
