For this week's release I've up'd the default timeout to 180000 ms, and I've added what I feel is better information to the event log regarding what's going on. You'll also be able to select an item in the 'event log' section of the view and, if the properties view is visible, get some additional information. Hopefully this will help. problem solved! I edited the hsqldb-ds.xml in $JBOSS-SERVER\server\default\deploy, defined the JDNI name of my DB and point it to the right url and then the application could work properly. thanks very much! A little more information: This problem appears to crop up a lot more frequently (pretty much 100% of the time I get the "failed to start message") when I am doing other things while I am waiting for the server to start (both things inside of and outside of eclipse). I am on a dual-processor machine. Are you sure that Ajax4JSF really requires this setting? By the way, Seam does not actually require client-side state saving. Its just that previously all JSF implementations had a Bad Bug in their implementation of server-side state saving, which is now supposedly fixed. However, you still need to futz with other MyFaces-specific settings to set the length of the history, etc, and so its just easier to use "client". Same problem. I followed the jboss doc at http://docs.jboss.org/jbossas/jboss4guide/r4/html/ch13.html and it seems that the doc is a little out-dated. The SessionFactory was not bound to the JNDI name. Another thing I wonder is: the hibernate-service.xml only offers a certain number of configuration options for hibernate, what if I need to set other configuration options for Hibernate? Those that one usually set in the hinbernate.cfg.xml file?
