Everyone,
I have the following configuration and have been unable to have the
logons work properly. Once properly logged in, I can terminate app2 on
either server and it will bounce to the other server. It will even
bounce during normal execution between the 2 servers. What am I missing?
Jboss - 4.0.2
Jboss cache - 1.4.0
app1 is using a custom written sso module and is configured to have it's
own session cache that is shared with other servers running app1.
app2 is configured to have it's on session cache that is shared with
other servers running app2.
both app1 and app2 have a shared credential cache.
our shared credential cache configuration file looks like and is the
same for both applications on all servers in the deploy directory:

the server.xml files for both apps contains the following valve:

We are behind physical load balancers performing round robin load balancing.
The sequence of events is as follow:
User opens browers and goes to url for app1.
app1 displays the login page and the user hits the submit button after
entering a valid user id and password
app1 validates the user id and password
app1 logs into app2
app2 validates the user id and password
app2 returns successful login to app1
app1 returns a redirect (302) with the url of app2 to the browser
the browser then connects to app2.
if the browser hits app2 on the same server that app1 used for the
login, the user is successfuly logged into app2 and shown the home page
for app2. the user can then move around app2 without any knowledge of
what server they are on and app2 can be stopped on either server and the
user does not encounter any dropped connections.
if the browser hits app2 on a different server than app1 used for the
login, the user is returned back to the app1 login page.
am I missing something in the configuration files?
yes, this is older release of jboss, but we are unable to upgrade the to
a newer version at this time.

The AOP deployer has AopMetaDataDeployerOutput.class as an output, so I added that to the WarAnnotationMetaDataDeployer as an input. Is that the right way?
