ok in the xsd version 1.3 there it is &lt;bean class=&quot;&lt;functionclass&gt;" id="id"> ... <drools:accumulate-functions> <drools:accumulate-function name="countMatchingRequestSubjectIds" ref="id"/> </drools:accumulate-functions> another thing is: the docu says implement org.drools.runtime.rule.TypedAccumulateFunction, which is not correct the drools requires org.drools.base.accumulators.AccumulateFunction; be careful there is also an org.drools.runtime.rule.AccumulateFunction!
