Hello, guys,
I have the following snippet of a right side rule:
modify ($gsc) {
doSomething($item.id);
for (int i = 0; i < $item.quantity; i++) {
doSomethingElse($item.id);
}
}
which looks like is invalid syntax in some way, but it comes out with
strange error report, such as '[Error: no such identifier: $item]'
Would you please assist me on how to put that loop inside that modify block?

You just need to do the loop outside the modify block and then just
update the object.

No can do, because within a modify block a comma-separated list of (setter)
method calls of the object between the parentheses must be written.
Note that you can change a fact (without a modify statement) - just follow
this with an update call.

Strangely, after making the changes, that 'for' loop makes the Drools
engine to come up with the same error (no such identifier).
I commented the loop and it does not throw that error.
Any ideas why this happens?

what is this doing:
for (int i = 0; i < $item.quantity; i++) {
$gsc.doSomethingElse($item.id);
}
"i" is not being used inside the $gsc.doSomethingElse($item.id); sentence..
that means that you are executing that always with the same
parameter.. do you really need that?
By the way what is $item?

called that "item" without the $ :)

All of the fields are public, however they are properties of a super class
of Item. I tried with getters, doesn't work either way.
Still getting: 'no such identifier : $item'. When I remove the for loop, it
goes ok, so I think it messes up things.

You could try assigning $item to a local variable and then using that within the for

No, it's not literally my rule, I've changed the words :)
In my rule I have the ()
Still wondering what's the problem with the rule. I've noticed many times
that when there is some error, the engine may describe another, completely
irrelevant error. Maybe this is the case again.
It is strange that when I comment the for loop thing work fine....

Why no braces after SomeBusinessLogic?
Also your logic is wrong there. Item is not a collection so your for
loop is repeating the same action over and over again for the same data.

is integrating with a rubbish stock system which can only remove one item at a time, to

a "for" statement. Note: the error is not flagged for the preceding occurrrence
of $item, in $item.id.
Different kind of errorscan occur, depending on how the "for"
statement is written,
for example:
int h = 10; for( int i = 0; i < h; i++) { ... } ## Error: no such
identifier: h
Avoid dialect MVEL - using Java and getters works fine.
