What are the complaints? Is it "Web Beans" itself or the whole spec
name?
Web Beans already has recognition. I know I don't have the inside
scoop, but I think changing the name would cause some confusion.

I am the same thoughts with Jay. Why do you have a plan to change name WebBeans? I think
WebBeans is a great.
Same with the Manager interface, I think there is no need to change Manager name. It did
its job.

I would simply call it "JSR-299 - Dependency Injection", or even
"Contextual
Dependency Injection".

If it needs to be changed, it could be "Bean Config" and grab the
javax.config package. jsr-299 really is a configuration specification.

Well, I like the Web Beans and the spec has gathered interest under
that name. OK, if it later on becomes a general injection framework,
the "Web"-part might be a bit misleading. In that case, my vote would
go for "Contextual components". The wouldn't be that much of a name
clash with the Contextual interface (isn't that exactly the contextual
part?).
"Contextual component" is a bit hard to pronounce quickly for
non-native speakers but we could always call them COCOs and adapt a
coconut as a logo. Unless we take the Prince-route and just invent a
symbol and call it the "Specification That Was Previously Known as Web
Beans". Would make future renaming easy ;-)
